Bleach 556 "The Wolfsbane" Summary: 

As Shinji Hirako gets blown away by Bambietta's blast, the latter explains to him that his Zanpakutō's abilities are useless when she can just blow everything up with her ability, "The Explode".

Bambietta notices that Sajin Komamura wasn't as injured by her blast as Shinji, but gets interrupted by another assailant, Momo Hinamori, appearing behind her. Momo attempts to counter Bambietta's explosions with Tobiume, but Komamura stops her, saying that it won't be enough, and that she would need some sort of shield or armor to defend herself with. Bambietta responds by mocking Komamura's headgear, saying that it won't protect him.

Komamura begins to analyze Bambietta's explosions, and the short interval between their start and their time of impact. He deduces that he should be able to repel the explosions with his sheer size and the strength of his armor. When he realizes that his attempt didn't work as planned, Bambietta explains that her explosions can't be blocked, because rather than firing reishi bombs, her ability allows her to turn anything she fires reishi at into a bomb itself.

Komamura quickly orders Momo to get behind him before another explosion hits. Bambietta's next explosion causes his helmet to be blown off, revealing a Human face, surprising his opponent.

In a flashback to his training with his great-grandfather, Komamura learns the secret of his clan's "Human Transformation Technique", which allows them to gain a human form and immense power for a period of time. Komamura asks his ancestor how he can learn the technique, to which the elder responds that he must gouge out his own heart and give it to him in exchange for the ability to use it. Noticing Komamura's hesitation, his great-grandfather states that he doesn't have to, as he's not obligated to throw his life away for the Shinigami. Komamura responds with a counter argument, saying that even though his clan lived in the shadows, former Captain-Commander Yamamoto gave him a chance to become a Shinigami. Komamura vows to clear away the shame of not being able to repay Yamamoto's kindness before he was killed by Yhwach.

Back in his fight with Bambietta, Komamura activates his Bankai, Kokujō Tengen Myō'ō, and a new ability with it, Dangai Jōe.
